Fun With Ponies is designed for Daisy Girl Scouts, or other groups of children ages 5 - 6.  This hands-on session gives youngsters the opportunity to learn about horse safety, visit a horse barn and see how horses live.  Children  will learn how to groom a horse and, if they want, ride one.  All  will be allowed ride a pony  that will be lead by a qualified leader.

Each girl will receive a patch that can be worn on the back of her sash/vest when she completes the following:

   Safety First
* Learn how to act around horses
* How to give a treat to a horse
* What clothes to wear
  
  Where do Horses Live?
* Tour a stable and learn about stalls and paddocks
* See what horses eat
* Find out how often the stalls are cleaned
* Help clean a stall
   




"I Love Horses and Ponies"   for Brownie Girl Scouts, or children ages 6 - 8







I Love Horses is designed for Brownie Girl Scouts. and children ages 6-8 (grades 2-3)  The hands-on session teaches the fundamentals of horses and includes a mini lesson on the horse.

Children are divided into small groups.  Each group is assigned a horse that they will measure, weigh and groom.  Each girl will be given the opportunity to ride a horse on lead line in either an English or Western saddle.  If time permits the girls may select a second ride using the saddle they did not ride in previously.  The ride/lesson is one trip around the arena.

Each girl will receive a patch that can be worn on the back of her sash/vest when she completes the following:

   Safety First

* Horses are "prey" animals and how to be safe around them
* How to give a treat to a horse
* What clothes to wear
* How to lead a horse

  





How Tall is My Horse?
* Why horses are measured in "hands"
* How horses are measured today
* Find out the height and weight of a horse

Horse Grooming
* What tools are used to groom a horse
* How the tools are used
* Learn how to groom a horse

Horse Tack
* Difference between English and Western saddles
* Who uses them and why

Riding a Horse
* Learn how to mount and dismount
* Learn how to make the horse go and stop
